Without a doubt, one of my favorite artists of any medium is Tove Jansson, creator of perhaps my all-time favorite universe ... Moominvalley. If you have never read the Moomin comic strips or illustrated children's stories, I urge you to do. They used to be hard to find outside of Sweden, but now all of the original stories have been republished by American underground comic publisher Drawn & Quarterly. Check out everything Moomin-related they have put out here (I highly recommended the first 4 volumes of the original b&w comic strip).
A friend of mine and fellow Moomin fanatic recently showed me this page, which has scanned all of the pages from Jansson illustrating a Swedish version of the classic "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" book. I somehow had no idea this existed, or that Jansson also illustrated other books for 'Alice" author Lewis Carrol.
These are so beautiful! Check out the whole spread here.
